My Daily Yoga Practice

Like everything else, my yoga practice has changed a lot this year. Prior to the pandemic and shut downs, I practiced asana three or four times a week in a yoga studio, as well as several times a week at home. But in April all that changed. In recent months my practice has mostly consisted of mediation, chanting, journaling, and reading sacred texts like the Yoga Sutras, Upanishads, and event books about St. Francis of Assisi. Today, I thought I’d give you a sneak peek into my morning practice. I usually meditate or chant for 10 or 15 minutes but I edited down to about 5 minutes in this video. I hope you’ll join me.

As we head into the final weeks of 2020, remember that you don’t need to do 108 Sun Salutations to practice yoga. You simply need to practice awareness. Through that awareness you may discover your true Self. That is yoga.

Why don’t you teach yoga for…. ?

Occasionally folks will ask why I don’t teach yoga for back pain/cat lovers/teachers or some other ailment or affinity group. It’s not surprising that this question comes up since the West has appropriated yoga as a treatment for any number of issues. But, I’ve consciously decided not to offer yoga in such a way. Partly because I believe it’s beyond my scope of practice but also because I honor yoga as a spiritual practice. 

That being said, I know there are very real physical benefits to practicing yoga asana. So, over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite practices for undoing some of the effects that lock down life has had on my body. Sign up for Fat Kid Yoga Club today!

December Practice Schedule

Hey Friends! This month I’ll be offering weekly Restorative and Hatha yoga practices live via Zoom. 

  • Restorative Yoga Thursdays at 6:30 PM CST (12/3, 12/10, 12/17)
  • Hatha Yoga Saturdays at 10:00 AM CST (12/5, 12/12, 12/19)

These practices generally last about an hour. Of course the schedule is subject to change due to hurricanes, power outages, or other 2020 shenanigans.

As of now, no practices are scheduled 12/20 through 12/31.

To join, visit patreon.com/fatkidyogaclub and pick the membership level that’s right for you. All Patrons are invited to practice with me live via Zoom at no extra cost. November Practice Schedule and Updates

Hey friends – As of November 1, all members are invited to practice with me live via Zoom at no extra cost. Even better, you don’t need to register in advance. I’ll post the Zoom link a few hours before each practice, so you won’t have to hunt it down. 

Weekly practices are as follows:

  • Restorative Yoga Thursdays at 6:30 PM CST (Does anyone want a practice on 11/26?)
  • Hatha Yoga Saturdays at 10:00 AM CST

These practices generally last about an hour. Of course the schedule is subject to change due to hurricanes, power outages, or other 2020 shenanigans. 

I’m also offering a Self-Care for the Holidays workshop on Monday, November 9 at 7:30 PM CST. It will be recorded and posted here for those who could not attend live. 

I’ll be recording and posting a few new practices in the coming weeks. One will be an introduction to inversions that will focus on shoulder stand.

Unlimited for ALL

Beginning November 1, 2020,  ALL membership levels get access to recorded and live practices and workshops. Choose the level that best suits your budget and the value you think you are getting. Suggested tiers are available below.

Offerings may vary month to month but generally speaking, I offer Restorative Yoga on Thursdays at 6:30 PM and a Hatha Style practice on Saturdays at 10:30 AM. I will record one of these practices each month to be posted to the library.

Equity Access Membership $1 – Reserved for BIPOC, Trans/Queer, People with Disabilities, and those experiencing economic hardships.

$10 – Suggested for folks who mainly plan to watch recorded practices.

$35 – Suggested for folks who may come to a few live practices each month

$70 – Suggested for folks who plan to participate in at least one live practice per week
